WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO Camp Season is (finally) upon us. I just wanted to touch base with everyone and send out a newsletter to address some last minute issues.
First, and most importantly, I have been inundated with phone calls from concerned families regarding the report the media released about the H1N1 Virus (Swine Flu) being discovered in 2 seperate Northwoods Summer Camps. I would like everyone to know that Camp Birchrock is Swine Flu FREE! We have never had any cases appear at our camp and we continue to take every measure feasable to ensure we stay that way.
On that note, we do have new standards in place to address the H1N1 epidemic. Firstly, if your child is running a temperature above 101 degrees on the day you bring them to camp, please stay home. We are not allowed to intake any child with a temperature of 101 degrees or over. In addition, if your child is complaining of sore throat, nausea, general muscle aches, or other flu-like symptoms, we will also not be allowed to come to camp. If, during camp, a child is noted with a temperature above 101, and accompanied by flu-like sympotms they will be confined to our medical isolation room until picked up by a parent/guardian. Each day, all commonly touched objects (toilets, handwashing facilities, tables, rails, etc...) will be cleaned and sanitized.
I would like to add that these standards have been in place for many, many years at our facility. Only this year has it become officially a requirement by both the American Camp Association and the Center for Disease Contol.
Okay, let's get the the fun stuff!
Next week (July 6th - 10th) is our staff training week. All parents are invited to come and visit at any time without making an appointment between the hours of 8am and 5pm to meet any of the staff prior to your child attending our facility.
Don't forget to download our CAMP CHECKLIST from our website ( www.campbirchrock.org/files/Camp%20Checklist.pdf ) to make sure your camper has everything he/she needs for their week!
We will have our mailbox in place at camp this year for parents to send letters to their campers instead of sending them to our downtown office and having a day layover before they get to the campers. The address is 6648 County Road K - Rhinelander, WI 54501.
Please do not hesitate to call or email me if you have any questions!
Sincerely,
Jeremy Fadoul
