At Camp Fire USA, we are dedicated to giving youth and outlet to get involved in our community. We host a variety of programs, as well as individual special events to help build future leaders and caring confident youth.
- Absolutely Incredible Kid Day: This event is held on the second Tuesday in March. We host an event that allows parents and businesses to show their appreciation to a child or young adult. Whether it is their own children, an employee, or a volunteer, we encourage adults to write a letter and present it to their recipient and tell them “thank you”. (side note: this project is new and will be edited down the line as soon as we figure everything out how we want to do it)
Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program: This program is open to area teens (14-18) who wish to volunteer at our camp as a CIT. CIT’s are first put through a leadership training program lasting 10 hours, and then trained the same as a Senior Counselor. Duties will include: the safety, security, and well being of campers, assisting the Senior Counselors with program development and execution, assisting the Directors with random assignments, and once a week taking on the full role of a Senior Counselor with guidance and supervision of your Senior Counselor. This opportunity gets you ready for the amazing opportunity of being a Senior Counselor. Successful CIT’s are first on the list for hiring when the summer comes along and you are looking for a job while you are home from college! This is also a great opportunity to pad your resume and college application with multiple hours of volunteer work for your community!
- TeenCERT (Community Emergency Response Team): This program is brand new to the area. We are taking local area teens that are interested in future careers in Emergency Services and teaching them the basics of disaster response. We take a hands on approach to discussing what to do in an emergency, and more important: how you can help save a life. We will go over medical response, with almost the same level of programming as you would receive in a Medical First Responder program, as well as fire suppression, mass casualty assistance, and relief efforts. We work jointly with Fire Departments and Ambulance services in the area, as well as your high school, to incorporate a “Teen Medical Response Unit” in your school. Working jointly with the school districts nurse, you will have the opportunity to respond to medical emergencies within your school and work hand in hand with the Ambulance service to treat and transport medical and trauma patients! This is an excellent program for everyone to take. Even if you are not looking for a future career in Emergency Services, with this program, you will learn what to do in case you are involved, or witness an emergency.
- State Accredited Babysitting Class: This class is offered every quarter to pre-teens and teens who wish to learn the basics of childcare in an in-home setting. We teach everything from basic first aid and CPR (non-licensed), to bottle feeding, changing diapers, behavioral issues and everything in between. This class is a must have if you want an advantage over other people looking for a job in babysitting!
